The Network Engineer’s role is to assist in planning, installation, configuration and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of Surescripts’ IT assets. This includes configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. The Network Engineer is assigned to support Production & Datacenter networks, QA, Development and/or Corporate office networks. Specific responsibilities vary by assigned group.





  • Implement short- and long-term plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements. This includes both new products/services as well as maintaining/refreshing existing infrastructure.
  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports
  • Document, implement and maintain policies, procedures for network environment
  • Conduct new product & services research. Negotiate with vendors for the procurement of new products & solutions. Plan, acquire and oversee installation, and administration/operation of the product/solution
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation
  • Provide high quality support for external participants on connectivity issues by attaining a high level of expertise regarding Surescripts network interfaces. Assisting with customer and vendor troubleshooting and support for network issues
  • Accountable for network technologies including Intrusion Detection Systems, Firewall, load balancers, desktop/laptop LAN support, Microsoft Exchange servers, soft IP PBX & Cisco VoIP, WAN management & capacity planning, digital certificate PKI management, Anti-SPAM, DNS, disaster recovery planning & testing of the network
  • Document network problems and resolution to build a knowledge base
  • Attend training seminars, conferences and trade shows to broaden skillsets and technologies.


Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information sciences or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in related, progressive roles where telecommunications network skills were applied and enhanced
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts &products
  • Experience and thorough knowledge of network, operating systems, hyper visor including TCP/IP, Windows, UNIX/Linux, IOS, .
  • Experience and thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN concepts (route/switch) & products (e.g. Frame Relay, MPLS, IPSEC/SSL VPN,VOIP)
  • Thorough knowledge of firewall & load balancer concepts as well as hand-on experience with products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Subject matter expert in supporting F5 products including Big-IP GTM, LTM & ASM
  • Extensive experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of the F5 BIG IP (GTM/LTM/ASM, Etc.), Cisco ASA and Palo Firewalls. 
  • Extensive experience performing all F5 LTM load balancer functions to include: creating virtual servers, pools/pool members, nodes, monitors, SSL profiles, Certificates/MTLS, TCP profiles, custom iRules etc..
  • Demonstrated an ability to craft and understand iRules
  • Experience in custom SSL, ciphers, and LTM traffic performance optimization
  • Subject matter expert in supporting Cisco ASA and/or Palo  (expert knowledge of firewalls including VPNs)
  • Extensive knowledge of network security systems, IDS and product/protocols including, ACE, ACS, VPN, GRE, IPSEC, IKE, TACACS, RADIUS, ACLs, 802.1x, audits, log files
  • General experience with VMWare ESXi 4.X or 5.X+ and virtual network
  • General experience with system administration including any of the following: Windows 2008/2012 & Linux/Solaris/AIX/HPUX
  • General experience with Cisco NX-OS (9K/7K/5K/3K/2K), Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS-XE
